Sinopsi:

L’Aisha i l’Abhaya són dues germanes que viuen en un món fantàstic ple de problemes i perills familiars. Buscant refugi lluny de la seva violenta terra natal, lluiten per sobreviure en un nou país. Una experiència teatral única que uneix els audiovisuals del director de cinema Kibwe Tavares amb la coreografia de la multipremiada Sharon Eyal, en col·laboració amb The Royal Ballet. Tot plegat interpretat per setze ballarins a escena en un impressionant espectacle ple de dinamisme i emoció.

Fundada l’any 1926 per Marie Rambert, Rambert és una de les companyies de dansa contemporània més rellevants del món i la més coneguda del Regne Unit. Amb una potent posada en escena transformen els espais mitjançant balls impressionants, atrevits i dinàmics. Un dels seus objectius com a companyia és connectar amb audiències de diferents orígens, per això sempre treballen al voltant d’idees emocionants i radicals. També imparteixen cursos i tallers de dansa per a persones de diferents edats i capacitats, juntament amb activitats divulgatives i iniciatives comunitàries.

Disjointed ambition

A co-production of Ballet Rambert and The Royal Ballet, the oldest and most prestigious dance companies in the UK, the weird and wonderful Aisha and Abhaya juxtaposed film with live dance in a way which exposed divergence rather than coherence. 

The films are directed by Kibwe Tavares, the British filmmaker and architect behind the brilliant Robots of Brixton. They bracket rather than backdrop an extraordinary, if near unrelated dance piece, directed by award-winning Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal. It is performed by seven dancers, each offering a fascinating mixed bag of anti-aestheticised precision movements as individuals and in group.

The piece was apparently inspired by the story of The Little Match Girl, by far Hans Christian Andersen’s grimmest fairy tale. What to make of the multitude of other references, it's hard to say. Although Ori Lichtik and Gaika Tavares’s throbbing (and loud) electronic soundtrack provided essential structure, driving on an unforgettable if unfathomable work.
